Drake Bell Hopes For a 'Drake & Josh' Reboot: 'Let's Do It' *Updated*

Drake Bell, who is currently in the midst of his Drake Bell Stripped Tour, stopped by the Billboard office to perform a few tracks and chat about his music. But perhaps the most exciting part of his visit for those tuned into his Facebook Live stream was when the 31-year-old discussed the possibility of a Drake & Josh reboot.

Speaking with Billboard’s Kevan Kenney, Bell discussed the idea of reviving his mid-2000s Nickelodeon show, comparing a potential reunion to the Beatles. “Look, when the Beatles wanted to get back together, John was always like, ‘Hey, let me know when the rehearsal is!’ and Paul was always like, ‘No, we can’t do that,’” Bell says. “So I’ve always said I’m the John Lennon of a Drake & Josh reunion. So if you tell JP, let’s do it.”

On the subject of Peck, Bell also commented on their up-and-down, yet extremely close relationship, explaining that they basically feel like siblings.

“We’re brothers,” Bell shares. “Honestly, we’ve known each other for 20 years almost, and we’ve had our ups and downs. It’s same with my own brothers. I mean we’ve had times where I wanna throw my brother through the wall and there’s other times where I wanna grab him and be like, ‘Dude, you’re my best friend! I love you to death.’ And I think for Josh…he was an only child, so I think I was really the closest thing that he would ever have to a brother and we were really close.”

Last year, Bell had taken to Twitter to express how upset he was over not being invited to Peck’s wedding, writing in a since-deleted tweet that their ties were “officially cut.” However, the pair mended their relationship after they ran into each other at the 2017 MTV VMAs.

“When I saw him at the VMAs…he threw his arm around me, and we hashed it out," Bell states. "And he’s like, ‘No hard feelings, man, I love you man, you’re my bro.’ So it’s all water under the bridge.”

The wedding guest list drama refuses to calm down, though. Even though the former costars officially hugged it out in August, the saga continued yesterday when Drake Bell stopped by TRL, where he was asked the million dollar question: After being snubbed by his TV bro, would Josh ever be invited to his wedding?

"You did have some drama with your former Drake and Josh costar, Josh Peck," TRL host Tamara Dhia brought up to her guest, Drake Bell, before playing a video of the onscreen duo.

"This was after Josh didn't invite me to his wedding," Bell pointed out at the video. "I mean, I've only known the guy 20 years," he joked.

"As a brother would take it, I was a little slighted, so I kinda spouted off a little bit," the actor said, referencing his now-infamous Twitter rant. Clarifying his current relationship with Peck, Bell continued, "We've had our ups and downs. There's been times where we didn't want to talk to each other unless it was the dialogue in the show. And there were other times where we would do 12-hour days, and then I'd go over to his house...and we'd play video games, or watch movies, or hang out, and we were inseparable. So honestly, it's the closest to a brother relationship with someone who's not your brother. He's family."

While Bell's sweet sentiments make it sound like the squabble is officially squashed, the actor might still be feeling pretty petty over the invite snub. When asked if he'd invite Peck to his own future nuptials, Bell hilariously replied, "No. No, definitely not. And I'm gonna have the best wedding!"

And although Bell isn't currently engaged, he promises that Peck is going to miss out on a heck of a party when the time comes. "I'm going to fly in on a tiger," he mused. "But we're one Cornish game hen short," so it looks like Peck will be cut from the guest list!

"It's going to be like the Ringling Brothers Circus," said Bell. "It's going to be amazing, but yeah, no Josh."

But Bell quickly clarified, telling the audience that he was only joking. "I'm just kidding!" he said. "Of course he's invited."

The Rise of Nickelodeon Nostalgia

Drake Bell is all in on a "Drake and Josh" reboot.

The musician and actor says he'd "love to" team up with Josh Peck to bring back their hit early-2000's Nickelodeon sitcom. "The show is almost more popular now than when it was airing," the star says, crediting social media with its cultural staying power. He credits technology with keeping a show that's been off the air since 2007 popular enough to be regularly quoted and referenced by fans.

Bell tells Cheddar he and Peck often wonder how their experience as child stars would be different with today's social platforms. He says he remembers being on set when a friend told him about a new video sharing site called YouTube.

Now, he's also got a thriving YouTube channel with over 400,000 followers. He says it all started when he and the actor who played his dad on "Drake and Josh" posted an unofficial spin-off series that had fans coming back for more.

Bell is debuting a brand new sound with his latest EP, "Honest."

"The last albums I made were completely different than this," the singer says about returning to the studio. After working on covers, Bell shares, "I felt really deprived as a songwriter." Now he's back with four original songs and a pop-centric sound. Bell's focus on music doesn't mean he's stepping away from the acting world.

He tells Cheddar his goal is to record music, perform it on the road, and then work on acting projects when he's back at home in Los Angeles.

Drake Bell gets 'Honest' about his friendship with Josh Peck

Drake Bell, artist and actor of the hit Nickelodeon series, "Drake & Josh," sat down with BUILD Series for a conversation about his latest four-track dance-pop EP, titled Honest, and everything else that's been going on in his life.

Bell is currently working as an independent artist. He's able to have a lot of creative control including how his music videos look like as well as getting to really dig deep in crafting his current sound. This week he released the highly anticipated music video for the single, "Honest."

Bell credited his acting skills to making the video, which was done on a shoestring budget. "I got to jump in the freezing cold ocean. We were shooting that in December. It was ice [cold]! That's acting! All my acting chops were used in that video."

Overall making music videos is still an awkward process for Bell as compared to just performing naturally on stage.

"When you have a camera in front of you, like, do I sing to the camera? You just kind of feel dumb. You just kind of have to lose yourself and be like 'All right, I trust you guys that this looks cool," the singer said.

While also promoting the release of his music video for "Honest," Bell also gave us an update on his friendship with his "Drake and Josh" co-star Josh Peck.

"He and I have such a connection. It's weird man. We've been together since we were kids. I remember when we were 11 or 12 years old, we were on the 'The Amanda Show,' I would go hang out at his house, we would have sleepovers and sit up at night and asked, 'What our show is going to be about?' and we would come up with these ideas and not even be thinking we would ever have a show really. This was years before "Drake & Josh," it was just us fantasizing."

Working together on-set at such an early age elicited that brotherly connection that even their non-verbal communication struck a chord between the two. Fast-forward to one of Peck's most-recent work, the short-lived FOX sitcom "Grandfathered," where the two were able to reunite and they got to have scenes with each other for the first time in nearly a decade with Bell making a cameo appearance.

"Man, we fell right back into it. I'm like 'Dude, I told you there's something there between us' ... it's once in a lifetime in this business. It's a Martin and Lewis, it's an Abbott and Costello, it's a Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder. Gene Wilder isn't going to find another Richard Pryor, you know, I'm not going to find another Josh," Bell explained.

However, last year it wasn't always sunshine and daisies for Bell and Peck: For those who forgot or weren't aware, Bell wasn't invited to Peck's wedding last summer which created a temporary tiff between the two buddies. Long story short, this caused an online uproar with their fans as to whether or not they were still going to be cordial with one another or will they end their friendship.

Fortunately, the dust settled and they eventually rekindled their friendship when they met in person again at the MTV VMAs last August.

"We have our tiffs sometimes. We're so close. Having that type of relationship especially in Hollywood, in this business, to have somebody you can call your friend and you know intimately and closely, I mean that's priceless!"

The brotherly love for each other looks to be mutual for now. We'll just have to wait and see if Josh attends Drake's wedding.

In the meantime, go check out the full interview with Drake Bell seen above and download his latest EP, Honest out now on iTunes and Google Play.
