Nickelodeon Wins At The 2014 Kidscreen Awards

The children's entertainment and media news website Kidscreen has announced the very exciting Nickelodeon news that Nickelodeon has won several awards in the 2014 Kidscreen Awards, Kidscreen's annual awards ceremony which takes place during the Kidscreen Summit in New York that celebrates and honours the year's best kids programming and broadcasting work. The winners were determined by two panels of respected broadcast executive judges and were awarded their awards at the 2014 Kidscreen Awards ceremony held in New York on Tuesday 11th February 2014. The ceremony was hosted by comedian Sean Cullen.

In the Programming - Tweens/Teens category, the official website of the Australian teen-oriented dance-themed television drama series "Dance Academy", which airs on Nickelodeon UK and Ireland and TeenNick USA, won the "Best Companion Website" award. In the Programming - Preschool category, the official website of Zodiak Kids' popular preschool series "Tickety Toc", ticketytoc.com, won the "Best Companion Website" award. In the Creative Talent Category, the popular Nickelodeon Preschool series "The Wonder Pets!" won the "Best Voice Talent" award.

In the Broadcasting category, designed to spotlight the best efforts made by broadcasters to forge stronger connections with kids and family audiences around the world, Nickelodeon Northern Europe's 2013 brand refresh won the "Best Channel Design" award! The winners of the Broadcasting categories were determined by a Kidscreen readership online vote that took place in December 2013.

Nickelodeon has always been, and will always be for and about kids, and Nickelodeon prides themselves on creating surprising and playful entertainment experiences everywhere they go. To deliver that, Nickelodeon's brand identity needs to be anchored in what is uniquely Nickelodeon, but still be capable of stretching, morphing and evolving. Because kids are ever-changing and the only way to reflect kids is to keep adapting with them.

As part of Nickelodeon's 2013 global rebrand, Nick's on-air design is now based on a grid-system. The huge benefit of the grid system is that, although it is a set and unchangeable structure, the designer has a lot of possibilities to play around creatively within the frames. Nickelodeon's on-air design-team now has the option to pick from a vast range of Nickelodeon characters like SpongeBob and Patrick from "SpongeBob SquarePants" or Po from "Kung Fu Panda" and include them in trailers, promos, bumpers, idents and end-credits in a fun, colourful, playful way and even reduce them to their colour tone and most iconic attributes. As part of Nickelodeon's 2013 brand refresh, there are now more colours beside the signature Nickelodeon-Orange, which will stay. Plus, Nickelodeon's world famous SLIME is now an all year round event and has now got its own colour code. Until recently, slime was mainly limited to the annual Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, but now can be found on-air all the time. Slime rules!

Another new element on-air are the patterns, which are used within the grid and combined with all colours and the iconic character elements.

With the design refresh Nickelodeon now has a lot more elements that are funny and playful – a set of whole new typefaces with letters made of ham, wool, balloons and sponges or in an old-school-comic art look that was created to surprise Nick North's audience with unexpected designs.

Nickelodeon has broadened the number of animation techniques they use ranging from 3D and 2D, to drawing and stop motion. Additionally, the iconic Nickelodeon logo can be used in a more fun and creative way - Nickelodeon can play with it, morph it, put it upside down, hide it behind a set of funny characters... but the Nick logo always transforms back into the original in the end.

The core of Nickelodeon is to be heart, fart and smart at the same time and, most of all, be FUN. Making children laugh is Nickelodeon's first and foremost important goal. This is what Nickelodeon's new channel design wants to show.

The design refresh has not only been adapted for on-air use but also for online and mobile platforms, within print communication and on the ground. You can view a video showcasing Nick North's 2013 rebrand below. [Source: Kidscreen Awards]

Nickelodeon Northern Europe's 2013 Brand Refresh:

Spearheading Nickelodeon Northern Europe's 2013 rebrand is "Fizzl Wow Zoom", a brand new Nickelodeon song! The song was composed by and is a collaboration with audio designer Sebastian Müller of Hofkapellmeister Audiodesign & Musicproduction and four Berlin Beatbox artists. Together, they form the Nickelodeon house band 'Razzzonicks'. The song, which mainly consists of many noises and sounds from shows aired in all countries within the Northern Europe Cluster - Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. A extended version of the new Nickelodeon song is available to sing and dance along to in the online streaming video below!
